Aqua Phone Case

If you are that busy and need to answer your phone even when you participate in watersports or go swimming, then you would wish that some engineer out there actually managed to discover a way to mechanize fish’s gills and incorporate it into the smartphone – but until then, you will need to be happy with the £19.99 Aqua Phone Case. This is a form-fitting waterproof case that will ensure not a drop of water will seep inside to harm your smartphone in any way.
Water is not the only ‘enemy’ that the Aqua Phone Case will prevent from getting into your smartphone’s pants, er, case, as it also provides protection against sand, dust and snow. With a touch-sensitive skin, you can be sure that your touchscreen display will still work, meaning you can play Angry Birds when you go scuba diving the next time around. Perfect for amateur underwater photographers or videographers, don’t you think so?

Insect-like robot can literally walk on water

I’m sure most of you know about insects like the water strider that have water-repellant legs to allow them to walk on the water’s surface . It is nice to see that technology has imitated mother nature yet again as scientists in China have created a microbot that walks on water.
The robot is slightly larger than most water-striding insects as it is six inches long. It is also about 400 times heavier than a water strider, and it uses 10 water-repellent wire legs and 2 oar like legs to skim across water.

Quick Play USB Turntable

Talk about giving a new spin on something that can be considered to be old, archaic even – Firebox has the £49.99 Quick Play USB Turntable just for you. It is the perfect device for those who want to make the jump over to the digital music environment from their precious old records. Vinyl lovers are able to do so with the Quick Play USB Turntable, where you are able to place your entire collection of LPs, 12″s and singles directly into a digital library.
It can transfer your ancient music collection straight to the computer through the simple act of plugging in the turntable into a USB port. Once that is done, just boot up the idiot-proof EZ vinyl converter software and you’re good to go with the conversion process. There is no need to worry about special kinds of drivers or mismatched software for sure.
Not only that, the belt-driven USB Turntable can also be connected to any home stereo with CD or auxiliary inputs. Basically, it allows you to spin your records via a regular system whenever you are not converting them.

Heated Pet Car Seat

For those who see vehicles as a mode of transport, and not an expensive purchase that needs to be taken care of far better than an ancient mummy, then chances are you won’t let your pooch or cat roam free in the back seats of your vehicle. Here’s something for folks who love their furkids to bits, and want to provide the very best for them – hence the Heated Pet Car Seat, perfect for those winter moments.
This can be touted to be the only kind of pet car seat which is heated to deliver a cozy, warm quarter for pets whenever you travel. There is a 12-volt heater located inside the seat cushion, where it is capable of producing a mild radiant heat up to 15º F above the ambient temperature. The seat cushion itself is filled with 3″ of soft, supportive foam, while the interior of the car seat is covered with smooth, plush fleece.
You can string the car’s seat belt through the base of the car seat to help it remain stable even when you drive, and as long as Fido doesn’t chew through the heating element’s plug to the vehicle’s DC outlet, the both of you should be better off. Expect to fork out $149.45 for the Heated Pet Car Seat.

Elo Light Switches Brighten Up the Room

While many of the pieces of furniture and other large items in your home can really affect the overall look and feel of things, it is often the little things that make the biggest difference. The devil is in the details so to speak when it comes to the design of your house so that is why it is important to get everything looking right, even down to the light switches.
The French designer by the name of Frederic Bugnot has created a new line of light switches which he calls Elo. In his own words, they are meant to transform common electrical fixtures into an integral part of a room, with materials that range from wood and ceramic to glass and aluminum. Each of the fixtures are molded into a pebble shape which measure at 90 mm in diameter and the electrical mechanisms include either a single or double two way switch or a one or two way push button, and electrical socket.
This results in a magnificent design that any guest entering your home will definitely notice. While you have probably never heard of anyone talking too highly about the light switches in a home that they had visited recently, you can bet that they will be when they leave your home. It can be arranged in many different ways on your wall so that the switch goes up and down or from side to side or even diagonally, they do not have to be in a straight line whatsoever.

MicroVision PicoP head-up display technology arrives in test vehicles

Technology in vehicles have surely come a long way from its early days until now, and we even have some sort of Heads Up Display in BMWs operating for some time already to help the driver keep his or her eyes on the road all the time, while gaining access to vital information at all times without missing a beat. Well, MicroVision might just be in on the next big thing with their PicoP head-up display technology known as PicoHUD, being implemented in test vehicles already.
This move, if it gains traction, might just end up with the commercialization of its PicoHUD technology within a mass production car model – perhaps targeted for introduction three years from now? MicroVision’s contract will see the automotive manufacturer and its Tier 1 supplier work together with MicroVision to roll out advanced HUD prototypes which will feature next-generation PicoP display engine that are based on direct green lasers.

QUMA action figure made for 3D graphics

As someone who has worked with 3D graphics before, I never really got around to posing human characters. I suppose that I could have done better if I had the QUMA (pronounced Cooma).
As you can see, the QUMA is essentially one of those small wooden posing statues from art class with a bunch of sensors on it. It is good for when you want to put your 3D digital characters in positions that are tough to model. Provided they are human.
There is a video of it after the jump, and you can see how the digital modeler can create some basic action poses. It looks like the 3D video footage can be turned into 2D, so maybe this will be a tool used for comic books.

LEGO Minifig USB Flash Drive

Love all things LEGO? I am quite sure that you know by now the wonders of LEGO and how it does its job in tickling your imagination. Well, LEGO’s back with a spanking new device for computer geeks – the aptly named LEGO Minifig USB Flash Drive. You would surely place this Minifig in a potentially embarrassing situation, as in order to access data, you will have to pull down his pants. Yes sir, I wonder how many of us have dreamed of going around naked before waking and realizing it was not real. Phew!
This LEGO Minifig will hold 2GB of data inside, and he will play nice with both Mac and PC platforms. Accompanied by a keychain attachment, you can more or less carry around another 2GB of storage space with you – all that convenience will cost you $24.99 though. I am just waiting for someone at Hackaday to take this puppy apart and include a higher capacity chip – if only LEGO would come up with various capacity models.

V-MODA True Blood REVAMP Metal High-Fidelity In-Ear Headphones

V-MODA’s latest foray into the world of headphones would be the True Blood REVAMP metal high-fidelity in-ear headphones, and just what kind of technology does it pack? Well, we will look at it in further detail right after the jump, but before that, we will proceed with further pleasantries concerning the headphones. Boasting silver bullet styling, “supernatural” sound and “immortal” durability, you can bet your bottom (hard earned) dollar that this model is not going to be “just another pair of headphones”. V-MODA lives up to their true music lifestyle brand with the True Blood REVAMP, where it was developed in partnership with HBO to deliver a pulse-pounding synthesis of sound, style and comfort that targets the mobile generation who tend to be far more active at night than during the day.

QuickSmart Stroller folds into backpack

Some of you might be thinking: so QuickSmart invented a stroller that turns into a backpack. So what?
Clearly, you have never been a parent. When you have a young one who needs a stroller, this young one can suddenly get fussy and want out of the stroller. Then you have to watch the young one and the stroller. However, if you could just put the stroller on your back, it would be much easier. (Of course, the young ones usually want back in the stroller at an inconvenient time, but that is a separate issue that QuickSmart can’t solve.)
This also comes in handy when you are taking the stroller through some tough terrain. Say you are at the park, and you want to take a trail. The young one is going to have to do some walking, but the stroller is safely on the back. It weighs about 9 pounds, and I imagine that the parent can access whatever is in the stroller as well.
What is really interesting is that the stroller is pretty advanced with a 5-point harness, canopy, padded seat, footrest, and built-in shopping basket with side pockets.
Now let’s get to the price, it costs about $160 to $194.

Star Wars: 3D Darth Vader Helmet Wall Clock

Darth Vader strikes fear in to most people in the galaxy – after all, he is the Dark Lord of the Sith who has blown up planets to bits using the Death Star without shedding a tear. Having said that, what kind of devices that bears his namesake do you think will be able to sell? Plenty, actually. The Star Wars: 3D Darth Vader Helmet Wall Clock that you see here? For just £27.99, you will be able to mount a visage of his Lordship on the wall, and at the turn of each hour, his eyes will start to glow red in a menacing manner. Not only that, your ears will be treated to Darth’s famous signature mechanical breathing sound. Powered by a trio of AAA batteries, we think that this is one of the cooler wall clocks we’ve ever seen – even more so if you are a Star Wars fan.

Angry Birds Knock On Wood Game

You’ve played the Angry Birds game on your smartphone so many times with different expansions, hoping to collect three stars from each level and attaining golden eggs in the process. Well, what happens when you’ve done all that and mastered the virtual physics of Angry Birds? Surely there must be more to life than that, right? The answer is correct – you can now chuck your bird for real with the ANGRY BIRDS.
I first saw this at CES earlier this year, where it isn’t ready to be marketed just yet, but I guess things have changed now as the Angry Birds phenomenon does seem to be slowing down a tad bit – after all, there are only so many ways you can flip a bird, pardon the pun. Bring the Angry Birds to the physical world with this game, where you will draw a scenario from a deck of cards, build the obstacle with green piggies all over the place, while your opponent will attempt to knock down the structure and kill those porkers by catapulting the trio of Angry Birds in his/her possession.

Pix-Star digital picture frame

Pix-Star is back with a spanking new digital picture frame for the masses, and just before you ask where were you all this while as you never heard of the name “Pix-Star” before, bear in mind that they pioneered the concept of “the frame with an email address”. They’re back with a spanking new model, which is the Pix-Star FotoConnect HD (PXT510WR02) – being the latest member of the Pix-Star FotoConnect family. It will sport a relatively large high-resolution 10.4″ LED LCD display with a 4:3 ratio, so forget about watching those widescreen movies on this.
This particular model will sport an 800 x 600 resolution, and as mentioned, the 4:3 aspect ratio isn’t good for movies, but it is perfect for digital camera photos – which was what it was created for in the first place anyways.

Soulra Solar-powered Sound System for the iPhone/iPod, also in XL form!

We have reported on the Soulra from Eton Corp before, and I got a chance to try it out for myself over the weekend.
I decided to test it out on my iPhone with a dead battery. The moment the Soulra’s flip-out panel was in the sun, the iPhone began to charge. It took a lot more juice before I could get it playing stereo sound, but it did play, and it played it loud.
What you might not be able to see in this image is that the Soulra comes with a plastic cover to make certain the iDevice is safe. This is good for protecting against splashes, and it is IPX-4 Splash proof from all angles.

Phantom Keyless Home Entry

Considering that there is an App for just about everything now, I am not surprised that there is mobile software to replace one’s keys.
Phantom Smart Home’s new Keyless Home Entry system recently announced a new lock system that allows the user to unlock their door with a smartphone application. It uses Bluetooth technology, and users have to set up the lock to recognize their mobile phones before they leave.
In case of lost phone, it only takes a simple re-pair. That is, you will have to pair it again with your new phone. It is a hassle, but at least you won’t have to replace your locks. You can also use a regular key if you’re still into that old-school, non-digital thinking.

Mirror Universe LED Digital Watch

Most of us wear a watch for a two-fold reason – it not only helps you keep track of the current time, but it will also make you look a whole lot better by accessorizing with the rest of your outfit. Well, what happens when you get the Mirror Universe LED Digital Watch? The name itself is pretty self-explanatory – this mirrored face of a timepiece will hide the current time, while the chrome front adds a dash of class.

To know what time it is, just press the button and the watch will light up, coupled with a programmable short message that is displayed as well. There are 93 LEDs in total to help get the time (and message) across, where you can choose from 12 or 24 hour choices. A couple of CR2032 batteries are used, and you can tell when it is time to replace the batteries – whenever the lights get dim, of course!

Mophie Pulse gives Haptic Feedback to iPhone games

We have covered Mophie’s products many times before, and they are most famous for the Juice Pack. For those who don’t know, the Juice Pack is a battery cover for the iPhone that gives it some extra power when it is needed.
Mophie is working on another device that can improve the iPad’s performance, especially in the area of gaming. The Pulse is designed to house the iPhone, and it provides haptic feedback allowing the user to “feel the difference between hundreds of sensations”. There are also stereo speakers that boost and enhance sound.

Have you ever had the experience of losing yourself in an M.C. Escher drawing? If the answer is in the affirmative, here is the Mirrorkal Escher Puzzle from Thinkgeek that might just give your grey matter a challenge. Sporting 5 different drawings by M.C. Retailing for $19.99 a pop, the puzzle is a formidable challenge for folks of different ages, starting from 7 all the way to adults. You will have to do your part by arranging the mirrored cubes within the tray, and since the plastic tray is highly durable, you shouldn’t have any issues giving them harsh treatment just in case you get frustrated by the puzzle, no?
